Saturday, June 23rd, 2005: Club Absinthe
Stepping out of Toronto, The Daybreak headed to our western neighbour and steel powerhouse Hamilton for a night of solid rock. The boys performed an energetic set to an appreciative crowd, debuting a particularly strong new song in the process. Salut!
The boys opened with "Miss California" then moved into "When I Need You The Most". Next up was the pairing of "Chance" and "By Your Side", the latter being a relatively new addition to The Daybreak's repertoire. The moody "Only Everthing" pre-empted a powerful version of "Twice As High As The Sun". The debut of "88", the band's newest dance-rock epic, acted as the set closer and saw the band reassert it's dominance over the genre. A mid-tempo groove with a hook-filled chorus and constant break and enter structure, "88" promises to be a set staple for many shows to come.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the show, especially Big Dave and Jenn, to everyone who organized the show, and to Soundflood who closed the night, was kind to provide the gear, and performed a great set.
