Wednesday, December 10th: The El Mocambo
The Daybreak's annual Christmas party saw the boys take to the stage of the El Mocambo for the first time. The atmosphere of the packed club was electric, and the band was happy to play a bill alongside two excellent bands who are also excellent guys - Wannamker and Stirling.
The Daybreak's show began at 10:20pm with a new, untitled instrumental opener, which flowed seemlessly into "Miss California". The band then moved into the dynamically shifting newcomer "Staircase". "Twice as High as the Sun" was next and was immediately followed by "Hindsight" - the pair caught the attention of many ears in the club and the front of house was visibly more packed for "Shuffle", as the band continued to push the energy levels in the El Mo. Many on the floor were forced to dance with the infectious groove of what might well be considered The Daybreak's signature song. The set also saw performances of "Say Anything" - subtle and thoughtful and received warmly by the crowd - and "Promises Disappear (Let Me Say I'm Sorry)" (a.k.a. The Egg) which showcased the instrumental diversity of the group. The band closed out the night with "Don't Be Long", which elicited a cheer of happy familiarity from the crowd as it commenced, and a truly passionate response as it concluded. Many in attendance commented on the power, intensity and emotion of the show, as The Daybreak were clearly at the top of their game on this night.
Thanks go out to Yvonne for the show, as well as Wannamaker, Stirling and Ukula. Naturally to all the people who trucked it out to the club for the show thanks for all your support.
The band will now return to the studio to record some new tracks for limited release, and will play a small number of live shows during this time. These songs should be available on the website in late February or early March.
