Friday, May 30th, 2003: The Horseshoe Tavern
On May 30th The Daybreak were invited to open a huge "SXSW Buzz" show at the Horseshoe Tavern, featuring The Sounds, Vue and The Raveonettes. Although the band had little time to prepare for the show after playing The Emergenza Festival less than a week ago, the boys happily snatched up the opportunity to showcase alongside such buzz bands.
The band opened the set with the traditional opener, "Miss California" and then moved into a rendetion of "Fall Apart". Next up was "Stepping Stone", one of two singles from the band's recent studio sessions. The band followed with "Keep Breathing" and the crowd-pleasing "Shuffle". The set closed out explosively with "Stand In the Sun", "This Is Love" and "Don't Be Long". The set was excellent, both in terms of musicianship and spectacle, and many in the crowd were won over by the end of the 43 minute performance.
Unfortunately for everyone at the Horseshoe that night The Raveonettes were forced to cancel their performance. However, The Daybreak were still thrilled to play to a packed house and to share the stage with Vue and The Sounds (who gave a brilliant, MegaMan-inspired soundcheck). Thanks to Elliot at House of Blues and Craig at ATG Concerts for getting us on the bill and to all of the fans who showed up at the last minute - sorry for the short notice.
